"Soulmates" by Christine Gebauer
Original diptych by Christine Gebauer. Paintings offered as a pair.
30×40” each panel. Mixed media on canvas. Wired and ready to hang. 2025
From the artist:
“The diptych explores the organic, although imperfect, journey of two individuals who have weathered many seasons of life together while in relationship to one another. They have likely broken and persevered many times, both individually and collectively, with a resulting visual effect that challenges the viewer to see the beauty in the patina and collective markings. The viewer is invited to consider whether challenges, mistakes, or unfortunate events are truly bad or if they are a welcome and necessary part of a larger story of becoming, as individuals and as a pair.
The recessed areas of the painting serve as a visual through line connecting both panels, illustrating their imperfection and potential struggles both in and outside of the relationship. It also undeniably links the two panels together symbolizing their shared journey and enduring commitment. While far from shiny and new, the wabi-wabi inspired pair have only become more dimensional, have more complex character, and share the same beautiful patina that can only come from courageously exposing oneself to the elements of life over time.”
